Embarrassing Bondage Purchases

Post by NR47 »

So, I guess this is similar to other topics already discussed on this forum, but I was just wondering if anyone experienced embarrassment when buying things for bondage like I did in the past? I remember the first time I walked into a sex shop when I was 19, this was long before the convenience of internet shopping, the lady who owned it came up and gruffly asked for my ID (she was about 60 with a very southern American accent) after I went and looked at the sad selection of furry cheap handcuffs and sleep masks, so I went up to the counter and with a stuttering voice asked if she could get a ball gag... I said my girlfriend wanted to use one (I lied, it was for me!) She seemed a bit shocked, but said yes she could get one, and that she'd considered getting more bondage stuff on stock. You can imagine how mortified I was talking to this grandma about stuff connected to my deepest secret desires, but a week later I was pleased to find a great quality old style rubber ball gag with wide leather strap in the shop, and gladly paid probably twice what it was worth, just to have this beautiful toy to use for self bondage, and later with a partner. Even now I tend to buy things in shops rather than online because I can examine the quality, but I'm always thinking, "Will they guess why I need so many little brass locks or so much length of wallet chain?" Of course I'm sure they do) A guy in a leather jacket with a mohawk haircut... what else would he be doing with those things?!

It’s interesting; because I’m more inclined towards the lighter / classic / Hollywood-style bondage, most of purchases are rather unassuming.

A selection of multi-colored bandanas or handkerchiefs?

Totally normal.

A roll of duct tape?

You can pretty much get that anywhere (and in multiple colors!).

Rope?

The softer stuff you probably want to special order…but any rope can be bought at the local superstore (everybody needs it for tying down equipment in the back of their truck).

I’ll admit I was initially anxious…as anybody just starting out would be…

…but those supplies really just mix with everything else…clothes, groceries, etc…

It's funny because I buy rope occasionally but at the same time I'm careful because a lot of people don't see me as a DIY fix it guy so I'm paranoid that they'll put 2 and 2 together. Also I buy rope individually from tape because I don't want anyone to get the wrong idea that I'm trying to kidnap someone... ...or the right idea that I'm trying to subdue someone and the hapless DID happens to be myself crossdressed 😅

Yeah it's like one time I bought some really nice quality leather cuffs to use with a girlfriend, they had gold colored buckles...so I was just going to use rope to connect them to the bed, then I saw this gold colored chain in a craft store which would work perfectly with them. It was the same type as wallet chain basically, but actually it was meant to be a replacement strap for a woman's purse. Anyway I knew I needed two for the wrist and ankle cuffs, so I ended up going back twice. I'm not sure if anyone would have suspected what I was using them for, and to be honest why should I care if they did? But there's still some kind of stigma. There's still a lot of people who are completely closed minded about bondage play and can be very judgemental to those of us who enjoy it.

I remember being so worried people would look at me weird for buying a single roll for the first time that I went and brought screwdrivers and a bottle of super glue just to throw people off the non existant scent

Super glue came in useful later, used the screwdrivers once lol
I don't care who it is, one of us better be gagged by the end of this.

Funny) Yeah I've had the same worries even when buying something as simple as clothesline rope for bondage. So I always throw extra items in so nobody gets any ideas)
