Julia found her granddad Danny, sitting in an brown, leather armchair in the basement, where he had opened an old trunk. Now, he just sat there, holding a stack of black and white photos, lost in memories, the odd tear rolling down his cheeks.
"What's the matter, daddy? Are you ill, or in pain?" 'Daddy' had been what she had called Danny, ever since she had begun talking.
He gave her a gloomy smile, and slowly shook his head.
"No, I'm not, hunny." he said, as he sighed deeply. "It was just that these photos made me remember some of the good times I and your grandma had." She kneeled beside the chair, and he showed her a photo of two young people, a boy and a girl, who stood in the entrance to a building. He was dressed in a tuxedo and black shoes, and she was dressed in high heeled shoes, a long sleeved leotard, white gloves, and she had feathers in her hair. Her wrists had been cuffed together in front of her, and she had what appeared to be a metal band around her waist, onto which a chain had been attached. The boy was holding the other end of it.
"Where is this taken? And when; It looks terribly old!" Julia asked, as she looked up at him.
"Well," Danny said, and laughed a little, "this photo was taken just as your grandma and I were in our twenties, and were going into the most fashionable night club there was in this town back then. I remember it appearing in the local newspaper the next day, although I have forgotten what the text below the picture said.
I also remember her cuffs, and that chain, looked like they were made of gold, and her leotard was made of bottle green velvet, with white trim around the collar and cuffs. Although you can't see that on this photo. Come to think of it, the leotard you're wearing today looks very much like the one she was wearing back then. Even the pantyhose are almost identical in colour."
"What's that on her head?" Julia giggled and pointed. "It looks like a bird has crash landed on her head!"
"It does; doesn't it?" Danny smiled. "But what it is; is a very expensive, and very small, hat, with huge feathers in it. As I recall, this was the first, and only, time, she ever wore it."
"Wonder why?" Julia snorted, and granddad and granddaughter looked at each other and burst out laughing.

When it was time for her to go home, Danny gave her a gold coloured set of cuffs and chains. "Thought you might like these." he said. "It's the ones your grandma wore in that picture, and I think they'll fit you. Here, let me help you put them on!"
"Thank you, Daddy." Julia said, "They fit like a glove!"
