Regardless of the historical significance and controversy surrounding it what do you think of the Scolds Bridle.

For me it looks very pleasing on someone and would be pleasing to wear one for humiliation. Especially one with a bell or funny mask built into it like some have. Some like the ones that are smooth, but I wou want one to have spike over the tongue and press it down really making sure I couldn't talk or be sassy even if I wanted to. Thoughts?

In my mind there broods a story of a renfaire group: One of their members is a lady which in daily live has an important role, e.g. mayor of the village. People always want to talk with her about 'important' things and treat her according to her status. At the renfair group she just wants to be the kitchen maid, finding her peace in cleaning dishes and pots, etc. - not become some functionary again. Therefore she has a Scold's Bridle made that renders her mute. As she sees that this works, she puts it on already at home, leaves the key to the lock there ... wears it until she returns home. Maybe gets stopped by police to whom she can't talk, etc.

I’m visioning her working s a barefoot mute kitchen maid, then being arrested part way through the fare, locked in stocks, tickled still gagged and walking home barefoot in costume.

I see her driving home in her white convertible (Lexus or BMW), still barefoot, wearing peasant costume and bridle.
What a nice contrast that would be.

And of course a discussion with the blacksmith who makes the bridle to convince him that she needs it made to measure, because she actually will wear it, for an extended time.

And she must be released from the stocks early because the kitchen is running out of clean dishes and pots.

Well there's the harness gag in same fashion which tortures me.

There is the movie Brimstone where an actress/character was forced to wear it.

A bit intense for my tastes but I love the mouth piece, it'd be a really effective means of humiliation! :)
