Stories of Tie Up Games

I apologize in advanced if this is a little off topic, but this seemed like the best place to post this question. If not, the Mods will correct me I'm sure.

I have an old USB thumb drive/flash drive that contains years worth of saved TUG content (pics/vids) from the internet as well some of my own TUGs growing up. Unfortunately, it appears that the drive is no longer able to connect to any computer. The drive is NOT physically damaged but every time I plug it into a computer the light on the drive will flash a millisecond and then nothing. The computer cannot even detect that anything is plugged into it.

My best guess is that the storage part of the drive is intact, but the part the connects to the computer maybe be worn out from excesses plugging in and unplugging. I was wondering if anyone here has had a similar experience or if anyone has any suggestions for trouble shooting this problem. Does anyone know if the drive can be repaired or if there is some other way to recover the data and transfer it to a new drive? Thank you in advanced for your help!

It's most likely due to the USB inputs nowadays being 3.1 and above and the drive itself is probably earlier generations, and they're not exactly backwards compatible. You might be able to find some sort of adapter on Amazon or something

Hey! Thanks for the reply! I still have the same computer I used to load all the data on the flashdrive. The computer is a Macbook Pro from 2014 and the flash drive would be from late 2000s to early 2010s. The flash drive was working great on the Macbook and then all of a sudden stopped working in the way I described a few years ago. It was only when I got a new computer that I finally tried it on a newer machine and found that the same problem was occurring. So, I'm not sure if what you are saying would fix the problem. Do you think if I tried it on an even older computer it would work? I do have an old Dell XPS desktop from 2008 and an older Macbook Pro from the 2000s.

PS I just booted up my 2014 Macbook and tried the flashdrive again. The light on the flash drive rapidly flashes periodically, but nothing shows up on the computer that suggest it is reading the flash drive or even knows it was plugged in. If you have any other suggestion I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks again!

Sounds like the internal battery might be done. If you’re comfortable with it you can try bringing it to a data recovery spot in your area, but otherwise you’d probably need some specialized hardware

I say that as long as you don't have "questionable material" and are comfortable with having someone else see it , go to the experts.

Thanks for the replies I really appreciate it. Don’t think anything is too bad on there but I’d want to avoid having anyone else look at it just out of concern for the privacy of the people in the pics.

Fwiw when my external hard drive failed I was able to get the material recovered from a service and I had similar stuff there. I don’t think an actual person actually sees all your stuff. I’m sure you can ask around about privacy, other people have probably had private stuff recovered from their drives.
