Great story, thanks for sharing! One thing I would add is in the paragraph when your hands got tied, I would specify that they were behind your back. Just to help the less attentive readers (ie me) visualize.

I just read chapter 2, it has a lot of nice story points, I had not really expected this amount of feet mentioned but here we are. So share it if you have some kind of sequel in mind!

I usually like stories with fantastical elements, sci-fi not so much, but when it comes to this forum I am an insanely lazy reader. Where if I have to go through the slightest trouble to comprehend the world building, I just quit reading.

Some good points are raised here, I guess in certain crowds and to a certain extent it would be possible, and I think many people on this site would love to come across this on the street, or even be directly involved. But as mentioned there are a lot of caveats to take into account.
